KaKY Heroes Haven Veterans Program is dedicated to supporting and underserved individuals and veterans by providing essential resources such as food, clothing, and toiletries. We strive to honor our unsung heroes by ensuring they have access to the basic necessities they deserve. Our mission is to create a welcoming environment where veterans can find the support they need to rebuild their lives. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who have served our country.

Master Sargeant Mark Watters ~ Story of Our Father

Mark Robert Watters, hailing from Harford, Maryland, specifically the town of Aberdeen, was born on April 11, 1944, to Mary Watters and Richard Hill. He was the youngest of three brothers, joining Harold R. Watters and Leroy Watters. Growing up in a rural community, Mark was raised alongside his brothers by their mother, Mary, their grandparents, Moses and Ella Watters, two aunts—Aunt Martha and Aunt Anna—and approximately 14 cousins, along with 7 uncles.

Born into modest circumstances, Mark observed his mother, Mary, working as a domestic servant for various families. The family was deeply rooted in faith and regularly attended the First Baptist Church.

Coming from a military family, his brother Leroy enlisted in the Navy, while Harold chose the Army, and Mark followed suit just four years later. At the age of 19, he made the decision to join the Army, serving two tours in Vietnam. Despite enduring two parachuting injuries, he did not give up. He later returned to Germany to continue his service.

His diverse career encompassed roles as a Paratrooper, Tanker, Recruiter, and Trainer. Mark journeyed across the globe, serving in countries such as India, Germany, Africa, and Phuket, Vietnam. Upon returning to the United States, he continued to travel, serving in New York, Maryland, Virginia, Texas, and ultimately Florida. For 28 years, our father demonstrated remarkable boldness and dedication while serving the United States. In 1987, he retired to embark on his second career at Gold Cup Coffee Company, where he dedicated 20 years of his expertise.
