Marcy's Monday Minute: The Time is Now, Opportunities Await - Pursue Your Education

Have you thought about your education and how much it really means to your success in life.  The economy is crazy and competition for jobs is at an all time high.  According to USA Today, "Last June through August, just 32.7% of teens worked, down from 45% for the same period in 2000, according to seasonally adjusted data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Unemployment for 16-to-19-year-olds hit 21.7% in March, up from 15.8% last March, according to the bureau. That's the highest rate since 1992. New data will be released Friday." In fact, the only real way one can compete is through education and training.  The sad truth is that many of our youth take for granted that when they graduate, they will find a job, make money and live happily ever after.  Sure, you'll go to college, but do you really understand the value it has for your life. Think about this, more students come to the U.S. than to any other country in the world for a quality education.  The U.S. Department of Commerce states that foreign students put over $20 billion dollars into the U.S. economy paying for their education. How about this, China sends more students to the U.S. than any other country - 128,000 students in 2009. Another fact, there are over 1,500 4-year universities in the U.S., so you have plenty of options.  You see, American education has a good reputation in other countries.  You need to take advantage of the opportunities that await you in your quest for education.  Make yourself competitive in the job market - don't  wait for it to be handed to you - it does not work like that anymore.   Go for what you know and what you don't know, LEARN IT!
